Frequently asked questions

Does it matter who my broadband is with?

Of course it does! Most ISPs will cater to the mass market, whilst our service is perfect for your gaming needs.

How can I benefit from Claranet soho gamer broadband?

Imagine you’re playing your current favourite game, and you’re on multiplayer. You KNOW that headshot is spot on, you KNOW your zerg rush should’ve been perfectly timed and you certainly KNOW that guy was not aiming at you when he headshot you.

Claranet soho’s gamer package does everything it can to minimise your lag down to what it should be, making your skill matter.

What will the downtime be whilst the broadband gets changed?

It will not take a great deal of time for your broadband to be switched over. A few hours, at most, and you will be using your new service!

What is lag?

Lag is the term used to describe the way the game seems to stutter and snap when your latency gets too high. Your latency is the time it takes the info from your computer to reach the server.

What makes your network different?

Claranet soho’s network is used by businesses all day long. During the night, it’s relatively empty of users, and your traffic is therefore going to get from A to B much quicker than on any other ISP. Claranet soho also does not do traffic shaping of any kind, day or night time.

What is fast path?

Fast path is where we turn interleaving off. It enables your traffic gets to the destination far faster, but with a risk of possible errors. Many ISPs refuse to support it or only support it on higher tier packages, but Claranet soho’s expert team is capable of fixing any of the errors that might pop up.

What is traffic shaping?

Traffic shaping is where an ISP limits your download speed at certain times in order to not exceed their limit on bandwidth. This happens mainly in high traffic zones like cities and small towns.

Why does Claranet soho not shape my traffic?

Firstly, none of our business customers would like it if we did such a thing.

Secondly, there’s really no need to! Bandwidth limits for ISPs are at a certain level regardless of time of day or the day of the month. Therefore, we have a great deal of open space at the night time due to low night time business usage.

What is a bandwidth limit?

A bandwidth limit is where an ISP caps off how much you can download in a certain timeframe.

What do you mean peak times?

By peak times, we mean the hours of 6PM to 8AM, which is the time most users are using their internet.

What is a fair usage policy?

A fair usage policy is a policy designed to give all users a fair chance at using their internet properly. It also has things to do with usage issues, such as illegally downloading software.

What is Claranet soho’s fair usage policy?

Claranet soho allows customers to download freely unless they are at levels which would affect the network in which case we would contact you. During the evening our business network is quiet meaning there is no download cap in place.
